When it comes to hookah there are two things that come to mind. Sophistication and recreation come to my mind. There are those out there that like to party and use their hookah as another smoking apparatus that I frown upon. There are those that enjoy hookah as a staple of sophisticated smoking. I tend to enjoy smoking with others as opposed to smoking alone. Typically I smoke alone when I shoot video for my reviews and hookah videos. How can you be a sophisticated smoker? Dive into hookah head first. Gain as much knowledge as you can, smoking hookah is not only an interesting past time but also a science in itself. As I have written in another blog about how to get good smoke out of your hookah it is a science on how to make the best out of your session. You will see teens and young adults who will just slap a hookah together and smoke for the popularity of smoking. I myself take the time to set up the perfect hookah every time I smoke. I take into consideration how many people will be smoking, what their tolerance level is, what their flavor is, what to serve with the hookah. I generally like a nice glass of rum and coke with my hookah as far as my friends, soda is fine. Snacks and foods should be light and easy to eat. Heavy food will counteract the hookah and make your guest full and less likely to enjoy the smoke. Set a relaxing atmosphere and play light music that will keep them calm but quiet enough to talk over. You need this ambiance to knock off the awkward silence between your conversation as you pull from the hookah. Think of the British, tradition is to converse over tea, hookah should be substituted in the place of tea. Now you dont always have to smoke with someone, sometimes I enjoy a nice session by myself but would rather share the experience. Over time I think about writing personal blogs and tonight maybe this one will help you get to know me and my hookah hobby. When I say hobby its really more than that. Ive already written about how I started out and how I got to where I am now but I dont really talk about what I do personally. Who am I? Am I a hype man for a hookah vendor and blog site? Am I all talk and no action? What do I do? I guess you could say that I am a hype man adding flavor to products you see online and giving out knowledge on hookah and hookah affiliated merchandise but is it all talk? No I take my hobby very seriously. How you may ask? Well here is where it all comes together. I sit down every Tuesday and Thursday night reguardless and smoke at least one bowl of hookah. I keep my body a trained machine if you will. I know people that will come over and want to smoke hookah but after 5 minutes they are finished. I dont want to go back to those days so I load up a bowl and smoke it all myself to keep my lungs prepped for my next review or hookah party. But what products do I use personally? I use all the products you see in my reviews online. From the hookahs, to the hoses, the bowls and even the shisha. I get negative comments all the time on how I dont have a lot of smoke in my videos but thats because I use a green screen and the smoke messes with my video effects. For the past few weeks I have been using the 24 KM hookah and I cannot put this Palace glass hose down its so awesome. I also use Lemon Nara charcoal and sometimes I switch between it and the Lobster charcoal just to keep myself familiar with it. What shisha do I use? Well in videos and blogs I have talked about mixing, well over the past few weeks this has been the case. Ive been mixing Al-Fakher’s non tobacco watermelon, Haze Peachella, and Haze Pomegranate. Why? The flavor is awesome and I dont use up all of one flavor to do so. I like the smoke I get off the non tobacco but it doesnt have a buzz because there is no nicotine so thats where the Haze comes in to give me that buzz because if I dont smoke with nicotine regularly then I’ll get a buzz during a review. If Im buzzing during a review it makes it hard for me to do a good review on the product. So here is my question for you, what do you do with hookah and how do you do it? Whats on your menu? I just wanted to take some time and talk to you about how I got started in all of this hookah and hookah related stuff. It all started about five years ago at a friends house, he had a pumpkin hookah and asked if I wanted to try it. I was hesitant at first, whats it do to you, is it bad for you, how does it work? These were all questions i asked before I even tried it. I mean yeah I smoked cigarettes and cigars and I knew what those were but a hookah whats this? Well they explained it to me and then I tried it. My first flavor was strawberry daquirri and from there I was hooked. My friend never used this hookah so he gave it back to my roomate in which he recieved it from and from there I started using his hookah regularly. I also got one of my friends hooked on hookah as well. A mutual friend of ours left on vacation for egypt in which I house sat for and as a gift I asked if he came across any hookahs while in Egypt if he could bring me one back for house sitting. On his return he brought my friend and I a hookah as a present. I was so excited that hookah consumed me and I started smoking nearly every day from that day on. One day I thought why not turn my hobby into something more and I started doing reviews for a website on youtube and they in turn started using my reviews on their website. Now I do reviews on a regular basis and have never turned back since. I love doing reviews and writing blogs on my hobby now and people ask me questions about hookah all the time on facebook and youtube. So my question for you is how did you get started with hookah. I know there are bars and lounges scattered across the globe and hookah is making its way back into society like it has been for centuries. When searching the interwebs to find products to go along with buying hookah you can find an array of accessories. Ive stumbled across many products both practical and functional that are a must have for your hookah. From mouthtips to spare and extra bowls there are many sites across the web that you can buy hookah and hookah products. No fumbling around trying to carry everything and my hookah wasnt in danger of getting damaged or knocked around. So when you go buy your hookah dont forget to accessorize because you can customize your experience every time. Smoking outside? No problem pick up a windguard so the wind doesnt carry your coals away. Grommets age and wear out just like everything else in this world so pick up a few so you dont have to wait in the future while some are on the way in the mail. Always remember anything can happen keep a spare everything and you will be good to go and wont have to wait when you have to order replacements. Out of last minute gift ideas? Well you could always think about stalking stuffers for your hookah smoking buddy. You can find really great inexpensive gifts online around the holidays. You could always get someone a new bowl for christmas, I personally recieved a vortex bowl a couple of years ago as a gift and use it quite often still. Also could your smoker use some fresh charcoal or shisha? I know that I am always happy to get new flavors of shisha and new styles of charcoal to try. Ok first of all people ask me about hookah they ask me if its like smoking cigarettes. Is it addictive? Can you die from it? I assure them that you cant get addicted to it physically. The only addiction that you get from it is that its so tasty that its hard to say no. Also you can die from anything if its not used properly. Look at a schoolbus, if you are inside the schoolbus riding properly its fine, but if you are hanging out the window you could get hurt. I smoked cigarettes for the longest time and could not kick the habbit. I started smoking hookah a few years ago and it helped me quit cigarettes. How did smoking something help me quit you may ask? Here is how, first I cut way back on the number of cigarettes I smoked a day. Then when I was settling down for the evening I would smoke a full bowl of hookah. Eventually I didnt have any cravings for cigarettes. As long as I stuck with my ritual of smoking a bowl a day when I was settling in the evening I didnt need a cigarette. Now I am at the point where I do not need cigarettes or hookah to keep me going. I just smoke hookah now for recreational and social uses. I like to smoke when I have people over or when I am watching movies. Smoking hookah is like having tea or a social exchange while people are visiting you. Today I just wanted to talk about some new steam stones I just reviewed. I really enjoy these steam stones and wanted to share it with the world. The brand is Shiazo, the flavor I love is a toss up. I really like the two apples flavor because it is one of the best apple flavors I have smoked. Also I really adore the Dragonfruit flavor because it is so sweet and makes my mouth water. How the steam stones work is that the stones inside look like aquarium gravel marinated in molases. They heat up over a few minutes and put off a steam rather than a smoke. They are the equivelant of an electronic cigarette without the nicotine. They last for a long period of time and I really enjoy the session I get because it never gets harsh it just loses its level of flavor as they dry out. You cant really reuse the stones which is a drawback but you can get more molases and remarinate the stones to be able to reuse them. You can purchase more molases online but I think it would be just as easy to buy more of the stones already marinated in the molases so you dont have to wait on the stones to soak up all the flavor to get a better session. Today I want to talk about a few issues I have ran into in the past and how I solved the issues while waiting on parts to arrive. Ok, lets start out with your carb, and Im not talking about the carb on your first car. Have you ever taken your hookah apart and when you got to the carb you accidentally drop the ball bearing out? What happend, did you find it or did it roll away from you? Maybe it fell down the drain? No need to worry! I had a similar experience where a friend bought a hookah that was missing the ball bearing for the carb. Here is a simple fix so you can smoke while waiting on a replacement. You are already going to use a piece of foil on the bowl right? Well why not rip off a small piece and cover the hole in your carb and put it back together? This trick sounds like it is a lot of trouble but it really isnt. When you do this your hookah will get the smoke you want without the headache of holding the carb hole closed. Just remember dont blow back into the hookah because you will force water up the stem and into the bowl. If this happens you will ruin your shisha and charcoal and possibly damage your bowl. Another thing is if you are smoking alone and have a two hosed hookah and you need a carb, just take one of the ball bearings out of your hose and use the other fitting as a carb. If you don’t like a specific flavor why not blend it? I like trying new flavors and if I run out of new flavors I simply add 2 or 3 flavors together to get a new custom flavor. Are you bored of the same old flavor? Why not spice it up with one of the other flavors you are tired of to make a new fresh flavor? A lot of flavors I like to mix and experiment with are fruit flavors. I like mixing grenadene with orange or grenadene with another fruity flavor to make it custom. I also like mixing fruit flavors of herbal shishas and steam stones. One experiment I want to work on will be one part grenadene shisha, one part orange shsiha, and replacing the water with club soda or ginger ale. I want to turn my hookah into a Shirley Temple. Other variations would be to replace the water in the base with a flavored beverage. Sometimes I like to use a little coffee in the base to clean out the old flavor of the shisha’s I smoke thru the pipe. I have heard of using coffee in the base to add a coffee flavor, I do not suggest this for coffee is very abrasive and can damage your hookah. Make sure your hookah is capable of handling coffee first. The same goes with alcohol. Sometimes I like to add a shot of wine in the base with the water, this adds flavor to the shisha as well. I have not tried milk because I do not want to damage my hookah and it sounds like too much work to clean, but I hear that it makes your smoke taste like a smoothie or a milkshake. All of these are examples on how to improve your boring old flavors and give them a new life.  This week I recieved a comment on one of my videos asking how to get thicker smoke. This was a really simple thing to fix because I have multiple videos on how to set up your hookah properly. So I simply sent them a link to my viedeos explaining on how to get better smoke. Also another person asked about charcoal and how to light it properly. I sent this person another video showing how to set their charcoal up to get a better flavor and burn. There are a few easy steps to ensure that you are getting a thick flavorful smoke.  First step is to make sure your hookah is sealed properly. To do this assemble your hookah just like you would to smoke and place the bowl on top with nothing in it and no foil or screen on top. Next place your hand over the top of the hookah and suck on the hose. The final step here is to listen for any air creeping in from anywhere but your hand. If there are leaks simple disassemble that piece of the hookah and reassemble it. If its leaking from a grommet or rubber, try wetting the rubber and reassembling. Make sure your carb is in check. A leaky carb will cause little to no smoke to form. The next step to getting better thicker smoke is easy its to make sure your bowl is sealed really well with foil or a screen. When you place the foil on top of the bowl press it firmly against the bowl on the inside and out with your finger and thumb. Now all you need is to poke your holes in the foil to make way for a nice airflow. Now the last key step in getting a good flavorful smoke is not to overdo the charcoal. Throwing tons of charcoal on top of your hookah does get you tons of smoke but you will suffer by losing flavor. Some charcoals will burn so hot that they will burn your shisha instead of baking it. I like to use natural coals because they dont get as hot as instant light charcoals.
